Vila de Odemira is a small quiet town in the Alentejo, where the Alentejo tradition and the multicultural influence of foreign residents who have settled there in recent decades live in communion. With a traditional Alentejo urban landscape and sidewalks in the oldest areas of the city, Odemira descends from the top of a hill and extends along the banks of the Mira River, which meanders through the territory of the county to Vila Nova de Milfontes, where it joins the Atlantic Ocean.
Odemira is about 20 km from the beaches of Zambujeira do Mar and Almograve and about 27 km from Vila Nova de Milfontes.
The small village of Odemira is the seat of the largest municipality in the country, which has an area of 1720.25 ksqm and currently has close to 30,000 inhabitants (provisional data Census 2021).
Founded in 1256, the municipality of Odemira, has in its territory a great diversity of landscape, extending between the plain, the mountains and the sea. It is in the interior of this municipality that the largest forest area in the country is located, where cork oaks, holm oaks and eucalyptus predominate.
With 55 km of Atlantic coastline integrated in the Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vincentina, the municipality of Odemira has 12 km of beaches, the best known being Malhão, Milfontes, Franquia, Farol, Furnas, Almograve, Zambujeira do Mar and Oakwood.
